Oct. 3, 2012 - PRLog -- 17-year old Kelly Admiraal of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada continues his education outside the classroom during his senior year of high school competing in motorsports.  This past weekend he passed another in a long list of tests making his debut in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series at NAPA Speedway outside Albuquerque, NM.

The race in New Mexico was his first in the 59-year old NASCAR series but it will not be his last as the youngster and his Edmonton based team plan two more starts this season and a full campaign in 2013.

"The race in New Mexico was a lot of fun but a huge learning experience," Admiraal said. "I felt really comfortable in the car but we had a lot to learn about race procedure, technical inspections, and the whole race process."

Admiraal qualified 16th in the field of 22-starters. Interestingly, twelve of the 22 starters were all rookie drivers and half of them were starting their first race. "Our plan was to just log laps and not get into any trouble," Admiraal offered. "As the race went on I gained a lot of confidence about how the car reacts on worn tires. It was really a lot of fun racing in this series. There are a lot of great drivers and I learned a lot from them."

One of the new twists that Admiraal had to learn on the go was NASCAR's restart process where cars double up based on running order. "The restarts were really interesting. You could make up a number of positions or you could lose them quickly if you were not careful."

In the end, Admiraal brought his #83 Williams-Scotsman/Western Camp Services Chevrolet home in the 11th position. A moral victory and a passing grade. "This race was all about learning and now we have a pretty good book of notes to take with us to All American in a couple of weeks," Admiraal continued. "We know what it takes to be competitive and our plan is to race hard, earn some respect, and be a top ten car at the end of the night."

Admiraal and team are well-prepared by applying lessons learned and ready for the next big test. That test will be at All American Speedway in Roseville, CA October 13 for round 14 of the 15 race series. The track at AAS is a tight and tricky 1/3-mile banked oval which draws a lot of fans and competitors. The race from New Mexico can be seen on SPEED Channel October 11 at 3pm ET.

Admiraal Racing is owned by Menno Admiraal, a successful business entrepreneur and owner of Western Camp Services Ltd. based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The team is lead by Driver/Director of Race Operations Ian Admiraal and supported by crew members: Theo, Badge, Daniel, Nolan, Adam, Dan and Ben.
