India is considered as a spiritual country in the west and around the world and its history is incredibly great indeed. However, unfortunately, the crime incidents specially against the women tells the different story in the modern time. India has earned the dubious distinction of being the country where the maximum number of murders takes place in the world and to make the matter worse rape is the fastest growing crime in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the number of rape cases registered in India has increased around 900 % from 2,487 in 1971 to 24,206 in 2011. The increase of 900% is when rape is largely under-reported crime, because of the social stigma attached, very low rate of conviction and the embarrassing lengthy process a women has to go through. Rape case has increased astronomically high not only against the Indian women only but also against the female western tourist. Recent case highlights the terrible situation of women in India where a 23-year-old student on a bus in Delhi while travelling with a male friend of hers were beaten, stripped, raped and thrown off the bus and it took more than a week for Indian prime minister to give any statement. When the protest are happening almost every part in India against this heinous crime as women don’t feel safe in India, still the honourable Indian politicians are only discussing and some even suggesting that women should wear appropriate cloths instead of implementing the harsher laws. High number of crime statistic against women in India suggests that India has become a country where rapist move freely and women always live in fear and India is becoming a country which is far away from being a spiritual destination. A society which can't respect and protect its women is always a failed society and it appears that unfortunately slowly but surely Indian society is moving towards that direction unless strict laws are implemented, system is made transparent and the time frame for the redressing the complaint and accountability of the executives is fixed. http://www.youtube.com/ End
