Big Ten College Basketball Takes Chicagoland This Spring

Feb. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- For the first time in history, The Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament will be held in the Chicagoland area for its 19th year. From March 7th to March 10th, the ladies will take over the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, a little less than an hour Northwest of the loop. The six past champions include Purdue, last year’s winning squad and eight-time title owner, Ohio State with four titles, then Iowa, Penn State, Indiana, and Michigan State, each of which have one championship under their belts.

Meanwhile, The Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament will be returning to the United Center for the eighth time in the tournament’s sixteen-year history, including the inaugural event in 1998. The Men’s Tournament will run from March 14th – March 17th. Six teams have won the conference title in the past, Purdue once, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin have each taken home the title twice, and Michigan State and Ohio State each hold three past titles.

The Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament is now completely sold out.

The top four teams in each tournament will be receive byes, and begin play in the quarterfinal rounds on Friday. The Men’s Big Ten Championship is set for 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 17th. This game will be broadcast on CBS, while earlier games will be broadcast on ESPN, EPSN2, and The Big Ten Network. The Women’s Big Ten Championship will be held on Saturday, March 10th.

Several area-events will take place to celebrate the tournaments’ arrival, including the Daley Plaza Hoops Fest from March 12th to March 15th, during which time a court and tented festival area will be set up in Daley Plaza, offering entertainment, food and beverages, activities for kids, and special guest athlete appearances.
