Georgia Nature Photographer Captures the Grace & Beauty of Great Blue Heron in Debut Children's Book

CUMMING, Ga. - March 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Last summer, an uninvited guest moved into writer and photographer Priscilla Whitaker’s Georgia backyard.

The winged visitor – a majestic Great Blue Heron – instantly captivated Whitaker, a nature lover who was drawn to the creature’s grace and beauty. Soon, friends and neighbors heard about the new addition and began flocking to Whitaker’s pond to catch a glimpse of their new neighbor strutting about the ferns.

The heron, aptly nicknamed Mr. Blue, was remarkably comfortable in the presence of humans, allowing Whitaker to shoot dozens of breathtakingly beautiful images capturing his graceful frame, long beak, and impressive wingspan. These original photographs fill the pages of Whitaker’s soon-to-be-released children’s book Mr. Blue.

Mr. Blue gives young readers a glimpse in the daily life of the Great Blue Heron, a large wetland bird native to North and Central America. Animal lovers can see Mr. Blue soar through the skies, play hide and seek behind fronds, balance on one leg, and go fishing for tasty treats in the pond. Paired with Ms. Whitaker’s engaging and entertaining prose, Mr. Blue is sure to inspire youngsters and get them excited about exploring the natural wonders in their own backyard.
