English Sparkling Wine producer Gusbourne Estate use MirriNor to create a range of elegant packaging boxes

READING, U.K. - April 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Gusbourne Estate produce a range of premium English Sparkling Wines on their 200 hectare estate in Appledore, Kent. The wines are crafted from chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier grape yield, producing modern yet authentic sparkling wines that are sold through select restaurants and high end retailers. The Estate receives regular recognition for the quality of their wines, the most recent being the current vintage; Gusbourne Estate Blanc de Blancs 2007 won a Decanter World Wine Awards Gold medal and the trophy for best English wine.

The Gusbourne Estate approached MirriNor with view to using the metallic collaboration between Smurfit Kappa sheetfeeding and Mirri. MirriNor is a metallic laminated board that combines a high quality, film from Mirri with Smurfit Kappa’s patented and groundbreaking T-Flute microflute corrugated board.

Andrew Webber, owner of the Gusbourne Estate, commented “We wanted to use a packaging material that was produced in the UK, like our wines and we were attracted to the fantastic aspects of the MirriNor material like high strength and light weight. We were also able to create a completely bespoke box design using Mirri Rainbow film and a range of decorative finishes that created an appealing and elegant box.”

The box was printed under license using Color-Logic software by Oriel, a UV Litho printer based in Hull. The box colours were chosen from a wide array of metallic colours shown in Process Metallic Color Charts, enabling Gusbourne to effectively manage the metallic colours used, especially for future re-prints.

Richard Ainge, Chief Technical Officer of Color-Logic, commented “Choice of substrate is paramount when it comes to producing on-shelf appeal and the combination of the award winning Color-Logic technology with Mirri enables a brand to gain maximum impact on-shelf where 70 to 80 percent of all purchasing decisions are made”.

After printing, the boxes were finished at Celloglas with Cellolam low-scuff matt lamination, Celloscreen Spot Gloss High Build UV Varnish and the cartons were embossed using a brand new type of embossing die created by Lasercomb especially for micro flute materials.

Richard Gillgrass, Managing Director of Mirri and Celloglas, commented “The combination of MirriNor, Color-logic software and Celloglas finishes has created a completely unique result that fits the clients brief and corporate image perfectly”

Richard Revell, Technical Sales Manager at Smurfit Kappa commented “MirriNor  has had a fantastic response so far across a number of premium packaging sectors and is particularly suited for the drinks market, due to it’s high strength and quality finish”.
