By: MirriNor Wold Top Brewery beers are sold at the brewery, online and at a number of pubs, hotels and restaurants in cask and bottle form. Wold Top Brewery were chosen by Smurfit Kappa to be included in their latest promotional pack promoting MirriNor material. From then the conversation started and Wold Top Brewery looked into using MirriNor for it’s latest 4 bottle gift pack design. MirriNor is a ground breaking, metallised packaging board, specifically designed as part of a joint venture between Smurfit Kappa Sheetfeeding (http://www.sheetfeeding.com/) MirriNor is a silver laminated board that combines a high quality, biodegradable metallic film from Mirri with Smurfit Kappa’s patented and groundbreaking T-Flute microflute corrugated board. This combination creates a highly innovative, premium metallic board product that offers a high quality finish, great printability, environmental credentials and the revolutionary characteristics of Smurfit’s T-Flute microflute corrugated board in terms of high strength and light weight at 435gsm (770micron). Gill Mellor, owner at Wold Top Brewery commented “The team at MirriNor really helped us get the best out of using the new MirriNor material and brought in a cardboard engineer who designed a box using MirriNor that is lighter and stronger than anything we have used before and the flexible properties of MirriNor allowed the cardboard engineer to create corrugated tabs within the box that hold the bottles in place. This is great, as we know that when they arrive at retail all the bottles will be the right way round and showing the correct label”. Gill added “We were really excited about the metallic effects that could be created using MirriNor, but then we were blown away by the excellent result created on the finished box. MirriNor introduced us to the Color-Logic process system which allowed us to incorporate an intricate design with a high quality gold effect. This was all produced on a MirriNor silver sheet with no need for extra processes. We have had excellent feedback from clients so far about the new pack and the high strength, lightweight properties of the box means it needs less packaging for distribution and storage and therefore saves on transport costs. The environmental aspects of MirriNor are also an important factor for us, as the whole business strives to protect the environmental wherever possible”. The 4 bottle beer pack was printed by UV litho printer Oriel, the Hull based printer has recently acquired the Color-Logic licence, which meant the Wold Top Brewery box could be printed at their facility under licence. Richard Gillgrass, Managing Director of Celloglas and Mirri Commented “We are delighted that Wold Top Brewery have had such a positive experience as one of the first customers for new packaging product MirriNor. MirriNor is a sustainable product and is made using a Cellulose film that is biodegradable and recyclable. MirriNor is also available made from other films in the Mirri range including Mirri Pak Rainbow and Silver”. Richard Revell, Technical Sales Manager at Smurfit Kappa commented; “Compromise is no longer an option for luxury and protection, MirriNor provides both with sustainability thrown in for free”. http://www.mirrinor.co.uk End
