ELGIN, Ill. - April 12, 2013 - PRLog -- While official information concerning some of the most anticipated vehicles of 2014 is starting to trickle out, the sleuths of the auto-blog world are peering even further into the future, hoping to get a look at vehicles that won’t see the “official” light of day until this time next year. Since most of these sleuths lack crystal balls and time-travel devices, they’re out on the road with high-powered lenses, snapping shots of vehicles that, while not ready for prime-time, provide an intriguing look at what’s to come for some of Elgin’s favorite vehicles. A convoy of heavily camouflaged SUV test vehicles has recently been spotted out on the road, among them the 2015 models of the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban.

Set to begin production in January of next year, the Tahoe and Suburban will be built at Chevy’s assembly plant in Arlington, Texas. The 2015 models are rumored to be the first models of the next generation of these large SUVs, so the excitement surrounding them is particularly intense.

These SUVs are based on the same platform as the 2014 Chevy Silverado, which constitutes a full-scale overhaul of Chevy’s classic pickup. This indicates that the next-gen Tahoe and Suburban will likely borrow some of the Silverado’s recent upgrades. The powertrain options for these vehicles are slated to include up to four different Vortec engines: a 4.3L V6, a twin-turbo V6, a 5.3L V8, and a 6.2L V8. These engines will most likely be coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission, though an eight-speed transmission may debut as an option.

Chevy certainly didn’t hold back when it came to camouflaging these test vehicles: they’re wrapped from bumper to bumper in black plastic, effectively obscuring any details of the 2015 model’s design; it does, however, unquestionably belongs to Chevy’s popular SUVs. These test vehicles maintain the classic blocky styling of previous generations, although it looks as though clusters of LED lights will be adding a touch of contemporary style to these models. Chevy fans should be sure to check the website of their local Chevrolet dealership for further updates on these classic SUVs!
