GALWAY, Ireland - April 17, 2013 - PRLog -- ANDREA Concannon's Optician Practice will celebrate their 10th anniversary in December andwith this milestone the Practice is offering an exclusive, revolutionary vision correction therapy, called Orthokeratology or OrthoK for short. According to Andrea, it's basically a vision correction process that takes place at night when the patient sleeps, giving them clear daytime vision, therefore allowing them to dispense with the use of their spectacles or contacts during the day.
Andrea explains, "patients are fitted with special contact lenses to be worn at night, these lenses gently reshape the cornea at the front of the eye, so that when they are removed in the morning the patient has clear vision for the rest of the day. The lenses are then inserted again at night to maintain the desired eye shape for clear daytime vision. This means there is no need for glasses or contact lenses, giving  amazing freedom to the OrthoK patients."
Obviously the main advantage for OrthoK wearers is that they can now have the same restriction free lifestyle that the non spectacle wearing population enjoys.
While the process is remarkable, unlike laser surgery, it isn't permanent. If the OrthoKlenswear is ceased then the eyes and vision return to their original starting point. With OrthoK the wearer has all the benefits of clear daytime vision, without the risks of laser surgery.
Whilst a few initial visits to Andrea are required to maximise the outcome
— as with any visit to the relaxed, friendly environment at  Concannon Opticians
— this is not a chore and her friendly, trained staff are  always on hand to help patients with any queries or concerns.
OrthoK is also a great option for people who suffer from dry eyes or have other issues when wearing normal contact lenses. The challenge for Andrea was how to help these patients rather than simply dispensing stronger glasses for themevery year or so,whichwould be the norm amongst standard Optometrists. Andrea's research took her abroad to many seminars and training courses, culminating in her recent acceptance as a member of the European  Orthokeratology Association. The result of Andrea's desire
to help her patients has been her embracing of OrthoK technology, meaning she can now effectively slow the progress of — and in some cases stop progress altogether — of shortsightedness in these children. Therefore  shortsighted children with a parent who has a high minus prescription no longer need to face the prospect of ending up like mum or dad, with OrthoK their shortsightedness can be controlled AND they can benefit from being glasses free.
Andrea concludes, "the results speak for themselves. My Orthok patients are thrilled with their vision and their new found freedom from glasses and they wouldn't give up their nighttime lenses for all the tea in China."
In addition to the OrthoK process, Andrea Concannon Opticians also perform a vast array of quality eyecare and vision related services. Andrea conducts "dry-eye" clinics (for those suffering the daily discomfort of dry eyes), adult and children eye examinations, paediatric contact lens fitting, diabetic eye examinations as well as standard and  specialised contact lens fitting.
