By: G&J Productions Tammy McCann, recognized as perhaps the greatest female jazz singer in Chicago, will launch the new series, Jazz Serenade, when she brings her vocal stylings to Ginny’s Supper Club. Ms. McCann will be joined by special guest tenor saxophonist Houston Person on April 27th. Known for his distinctive sassy sound and his expressive style of playing, the award-winning Person is best-known for his legendary partnership with the great vocalist, Etta Jones. Tammy McCann has been compared to the amazing Dinah Washington with vocals described as soulfully seductive, mighty and sumptuous. A classically trained singer, Ms. McCann is an internationally experienced jazz vocalist whose powerful, sultry and mellifluous voice paints pictures and tells stories by vocally merging jazz, gospel and classical music. She wowed the Ginny’s audience this past January with her stunning artistry as a guest artist, so is being showcased due to popular demand. She will be joined by Lonnie Plaxico on bass, Lafayette Harris on piano and Steve Williams on drums. “She’s probably the best singer I have heard since the emergence of Dianne Reeves” – Stanley Crouch JazzPlus Gospel will feature long-time Harlemite songstress Eunice Newkirk on April 25th as she combines the best of jazz and gospel for an inspirational evening of song. A soloist at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem New York, Eunice Newkirk has traveled across the globe performing jazz, blues and gospel. She has sung with renowned musicians such as Branford Marsalis, the late Frank Foster and Billy Taylor, Bobby Watson, David “Fathead” Newman, the late Lionel Hampton and Max Roach, just to name a few. Ms. Newkirk will perform an inspirational program of jazz-infused gospel. She will be accompanied by Kenneth Thornton on piano, Paul Ramsey on bass and Phil Young on drums.
