May 29, 2013 - PRLog -- The largest nonprofit awards program for independent authors and publishers just named Gretta Parker’s The $7.50 Bunny That Changed the World a finalist of the Pets/Animals category and the Juvenile/Children’s Nonfiction category for 2013. Today, Parker is traveling to New York City to accept the awards presented by the Next Generation Indie Book Awards. The official reception awards ceremony will take place at the Harvard Club in midtown.

Following the reception, Parker will make an appearance at Book Expo America (BEA), North America’s largest publishing event, on May 30. Booksellers, reviewers, educators, and librarians attending the expo can meet Parker at 3:00 p.m. and receive a signed copy of her book at New Leaf Distributing booth 1215.

Instead of a cape and muscles, Flopsy Parker was a hero using a Facebook page to inspire humans to pay attention to rabbits that end up in shelters. While Flopsy probably began life as an Easter gift for a child, he remained silent about his beginnings. Through his adopted mommy, Flopsy tells the stories of his life in the shelter. Now a new children’s book, The $7.50 Bunny That Changed the World, continues Flopsy’s mission to educate people about bunnies through author Gretta Parker’s intriguing story. This children’s book is a tribute to Flopsy’s life, the people he inspired, and proof that even the smallest of creatures can live the biggest of lives.

“Other publishers told me it’s not a conventional children’s story and you need to change the ending,” says Parker.  “The ending is the truth and I’m proud that my sincere story took a finalist award in Children’s Nonfiction. People need to know what really happens to rabbits and other animals. Sometimes they end up in shelters and need forever homes.”

The story continues to inspire people all over the world to help adoptable bunnies. This new book is full of fabulous photographs of the main character as he tells his story. The $7.50 Bunny That Changed the World is available in hardcover (http://shop.boutiqueofqualitybooks.com/The-750-Bunny-That...), paperback (http://shop.boutiqueofqualitybooks.com/The-750-Bunny-That...), or eBook (http://www.amazon.com/7-50-Bunny-Changed-World-ebook/dp/B...) through BQB’s online store, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Kobo, OverDrive, and other retailers.

“There are still a lot of injustices that rabbits face due to agricultural laws that currently govern them. Until legal changes are made, I will always fight for the little ones who do not have a voice. Flopsy was my son and my greatest teacher,” Parker affirms.

About the Author
Gretta Parker first self-published her debut book The Easter Bunny That Grew Up about the rabbit she adopted, Flopsy Parker. Her story centers around bunnies who need forever homes. She began by posting Flopsy’s antics on Facebook. She has since started the Flopsy Parker Memorial Sanctuary for elderly bunnies, special needs bunnies, or bunnies with behavioral issues. The $7.50 Bunny That Changed the World (http://shop.boutiqueofqualitybooks.com/The-750-Bunny-That-Changed-the-World-Hardcover-9781937084646.htm) celebrates Flopsy’s life in pictures and expands on the lessons he taught her. She wrote this book to inspire people to go their own local shelters and rescues around the globe and to adopt or volunteer.

Parker is the mother of five bunnies, all adopted from shelters, and runs Baskets for Bunnies, Inc., a nonprofit that supplies rescues with supplies. She plans to start a series of clinics in the United States that offer low-cost rabbit spay and neuter services in Flopsy’s name. To learn more, visit grettaparker.com
