The new Impala can come equipped with a camera-based lane departure warning system. The camera, mounted underneath the rearview mirror, detects lane markings. If an unsignaled lane change is detected, the system will provide audible alerts to the driver. Side blind zone alert uses radar sensors on either side of the car to detect when a vehicle is entering an area that can’t be seen by your side-view mirrors. When that happens, an LED signal will appear on the mirrors. Rear cross traffic alert uses the same side blind zone radar to detect traffic when backing out a parking spot. Visual and audible cues will appear if moving cars are detected. Ultrasonic rear park assist uses sensors located in the rear bumper to alert the driver when an object is directly behind the 2014 Chevy Impala (http://www.biggerschevy.com/ Features that take action while also alerting the driver include adaptive cruise control, crash-imminent braking, and a pre-fill braking system. Adaptive cruise control uses radar technology to sense the speed of traffic in front of the vehicle. It will adjust your speed automatically, including making a stop in heavy traffic, and accelerating again. Crash-imminent braking also uses radar technology, and if a potential crash is detected, it will apply the brakes for you should the system determine that you have not reacted quickly enough. The brake pre-fill feature comes with the adaptive cruise control and crash-imminent braking systems. It increases the hydraulic pressure in the brake lines when the driver removes their foot from the accelerator.
