Oktoberfest Cookies & Beer or "Apfelwein" (Cider)

NEW YORK - Sept. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- As leaves go gold and beyond, hungry minds turn to matching brews and what to nibble with them. The best autumn snacks may not be the wursts of yesteryear, but this fall's new savory or  sophisticated sweet cookies, each paired with an adult drink.   Kelly Cooper, author of Cookies for Grown-Ups (Red Rock Press), says, "In fall, we want a full-flavor bite  that surprises and warms us.  And we want all-in-one snacks that travel to an autumn potluck or a tailgate party.  We're on the go and we want cookies that go with us, and go with the beers or ciders we're going to down."

         Kelly Cooper's original cookbook includes several can't-miss Oktoberfest cookies including her aptly named pumpkin-based Autumn cookie which can be created in three versions---Mexican, Indian or Euro-American, each  frosted and topped with pumpkin seeds---and paired with a red wine.

         Several cookies are made with fresh apple including Kickin' which also includes horseradish and fresh ginger, and pairs with ginger tea or Obsession Confession that also incorporates Gruyere cheese and roasted red pepper, and goes with a glass of sparkling apple cider.

         And many cookies are matched to various beers, ranging in tone from pale golden ale to soul- satisfying stout.  The savory cookie, Hit-the-Spot, pairs with stout, and is an outstanding Oktoberfest treat.
