Cerritos College Hosted Integrative Cosmetology and English Workshop

The Cerritos College Teacher TRAC in collaboration with the CTE Counselors have hosted an Integrative Workshop series for faculty members since fall 2011.
 
NORWALK, Calif. - Sept. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- These workshops were created to engage instructors, improve student learning, and increase educational effectiveness. The workshops are funded in part by the Chancellor’s Office, California Community Colleges Teacher Preparation Pipeline Grant.

Workshops are organized by the CTE Counselors and Teacher TRAC staff. The workshops focus on integrative teaching and learning on campus and in the classrooms. The recent event was held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 in the Social Science building. Madeline Bettencourt, Instructor from Cerritos College Cosmetology Department and Ja’net Danielo, Instructor from Cerritos College English Department presented the topics from their respective disciplines.

To collaborate between disciplines and combine various learning strategies, Madeline and Ja’net discussed the integration between Cosmetology and English from learning styles to the different types of intelligences. They shared their personal experiences, discussed the different types of intelligences it takes for all careers, Madeline demonstrated one of the forms of intelligences, the pressure point facial massage.

“I enjoy attending the integrative workshops, it gives faculty the opportunity to understand a variety of disciplines and the different intelligences it takes within that discipline, said Cerritos College Cosmetology Instructor, Madeline Bettencourt. “Eighteen faculty and staff members attended the Cosmetology and English workshop. These workshops are such a wonderful opportunity to network with fellow faculty.”

The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program’s mission is to prepare students for a career. Cerritos College Cosmetology offers Cosmetology and Esthetician programs.  The program provides students with the skills to cut, color, perm, straighten, and braid hair, manicure, pedicure, and skin care as well as other applications and techniques. Students in the Esthetician program learn how to analyze skin, perform facials, massages, extractions, make-up, and how to treat skin.

The Cerritos College Cosmetology Program consists of 1600 clocked hours, of which 75% is spent performing hands-on applications. The program also houses a salon which is open to the public and prepares students for their career by providing real life training.
