Oct. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- The 2013 Chicago Artists Month (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/chicago-festivals/5370-chicago-artists-month-2013.html) is this month, October, and is an attempt by the city’s Department of Cultural affairs to encourage independent artists, promote tourism, and put both local and internationally recognized artists in the spotlight. Chicago Artist Month 2013 includes art walks, gallery openings, workshops, performances, and more, at venues around the city. This year’s theme is “In the Neighborhood” so there’s a focus on local communities.

A different Chicago neighborhood is featured and hosts events each week of Chicago Artists Month. October 18 through 20 will feature Little Village and Pilsen (http://www.chicagoartistsmonth.org/4-little-village-pilsen-oct-18-20) and October 25 through 27 will focus on East Garfield Park (http://www.chicagoartistsmonth.org/5-east-garfield-park-oct-25-27).

Another featured exhibition is the Celestial Bodies video series that brings audience members into the mix, with a blend of science, art, and aerobics. Screenings will take place around the city. Several single episode screenings remain and the whole series will be screened the last day of the month:

Episode 3: Oct 13 1pm, South Shore Cultural Center, 71st and South Shore
Episode 4: Oct 20 11am, Southside Ignoramus Quartet, 3217 South Morgan
Episode 5: Oct 27 2pm, Garfield Park Conservatory, 300 North Central Park
Episode 1 - 6: Oct 31 5pm, Chicago Cultural Center, 78 East Washington

There are also literally hundreds of other events planned for or still ongoing during the remainder of the month. A complete schedule for Chicago Artists Month events is available online at the Chicago Artists Month official website (http://www.chicagoartistsmonth.org/complete-schedule). Here are some of the featured artists that Concierge Preferred recommends:

“The Gold Dome Speaks” – A Fifty Year African American Experience will take place October 25-27 and will take walkers from the Garfield Park Gold Dome to other local attractions.
Woof and Drash: Weaving the Jewish Experience is another walk that will take place on October 20 and will start at the Spertus Institute at 610 S. Michigan Ave.
147 Pianos, a performance comprised of exactly as many pianos as it sounds like, will take place October 19 at Lukas Piano Service at 1500 S. Western Ave.
