By: L.A. Wolves FC The Wolves had to work hard this match as it was facing an experienced and well established USPL club in Santa Monica Sporting FC, with an array of quality playing talent. The Wolves did well to adjust to a different type of opponent then they have seen in the two previous matches and did pretty much what they had to do to stay in the match and keep Santa Monica on its toes throughout the game. The Wolves opened the scoring in the first half on a great goal that seemed to surprise Santa Monica as Wolves leading scorer Luis Trujillo netting the first goal in 23’ minute off a nice assist from Wolves Forward Andrea Toroldo. The goal sparked the Wolves but Santa Monica did not back off although the Wolves held Santa Monica scoreless going into halftime with a 1-0 lead. To start the second half, Santa Monica got right back into the game as Sporting FC converted a PK on Wolves Defender Ryan Gonzalez getting a foul called in the box as a penalty was awarded in the 59’ minute tying the score 1-1. The Wolves once again put the pressure on Santa Monica by responding with a second goal after a great combination of passes starting in the back with Wolves Defender Ryan Gonzalez spotting Wolves Englishman Rhys Hoenes who played central midfield for the entire match replacing injured Wolves Argentinian Midfield Martin Lenzner who was nursing a knew injury. Hoenes took the ball to the goal line on the right side and sent a nice cross to an oncoming Trujillo who slammed home the ball giving the Wolves the 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, the Wolves could not hold the lead as again another breakdown in defense occurred and the Wolves surrendered a second goal to Sporting which is where the match would finish 2-2. Yan Skwara, President/General Manager of L.A. Wolves stated, “Tonight we had a work cut out as we played a very strong side in Sporting. This was a good opponent for us at this time of the preseason, and it gives us a good idea of what we need to do to be better. We look forward to our next match as we continue to focus on improving our squad and our play before our season opener at the end of the month.” L.A. Wolves FC™ L.A.
