DALLAS - Oct. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- The Tom Joyner Foundation and Denny’s Corporation , franchisor and operator of one of America's largest full-service restaurant chains, have partnered for the third year for the Hungry For Education (HFE) scholarship program for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

As part of the partnership, twelve (12) deserving students from HBCUs will receive a $2,500 scholarship from Denny’s and the Tom Joyner Foundation. The program starts October 15 and ends December 1, 2014.

Full-time students at any fully certified HBCU can apply for the scholarship. Students must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 to 4.0. To be eligible to get a summer internship at Denny’s working on projects involving HBCUs, the 12 finalists will submit up to a 90-second video to further explain the details of their essay.

To apply, students must submit an essay of 200 words or less on the topic, “Describe your most memorable community service or activity to combat hunger.” To complete the process, complete the form below.

This scholarship program, launched in 2013 by John Miller, Denny’s president and CEO , is part of the company’s “No Kid Hungry” Campaign, which is setting out to reduce the number of children who have access to regular meals. Statistics show 1 in 5 children in this country go hungry. Denny’s is recognizing high school and college students for their efforts to come up with solutions to eliminate child hunger.

The Foundation will be reviewing applications and winners will be announced in January 2015.
