McDugald-Steele completes a 22,000 plant Vertical Garden at San Felipe HEB Grocery Store

HOUSTON - Feb. 19, 2015 - PRLog -- Houston, TX based McDugald-Steele recently completed the design and installation of one of the largest vertical gardens in the metropolitan Houston area. The 22,000 plant garden covers the western architectural facade of a new HEB Grocery Store located at 5885 San Felipe Street, on the southeast corner of San Felipe and Fountain View Drive in the Tanglewood Court Shopping Center.

Conceptualized by H-E-B designers the vertical garden covers 3500 square feet and spans 250 linear feet of the 14 foot tall western facing wall adjacent to the outdoor food court and its planned live music stage. This living wall of plants is a 3-D abstract work of art, with 6 species of plants “painted” in a bold pattern to provide variations in color and texture.  The plant selections were chosen in response to Houston’s climate and their suitability to thriving on the unique above-ground vertical framing system. The plants are provided nutrients and water by a sophisticated irrigation and fertilization system that is remotely monitored.
