Follow on Google News | 2015 ICAA John Staub Award goes to McDugald SteeleBy: McDugald Steele The Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA) is the leading national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the practice and appreciation of the classical tradition in architecture and the allied arts. The John Staub Awards program recognizes Texas based practitioners who are committed to promoting excellence in both classical and vernacular traditions. The award winning estate garden was constructed around the 1930’s architecture of a John Staub designed residence located within River Oaks. The garden spaces feature the display of garden sculptures by recognized artists such as Georgia O’Keefe and Anish Kapoor. Unique undulating hedges constructed of galvanized trellis material that has been covered with fragrant star jasmine are used to create the outdoor garden room boundaries. The owners desire to interject water and its visual and audible qualities led to the development of a serpentine fountain and family swimming pool. The gardens were recently included within the October 2015 issue of Architectural Digest. Since 1975, McDugald-Steele has remained the Houston standard bearer for turn-key Landscape Architectural, Construction and Garden Management services for high-end residential and premier commercial properties. Characterized by its fresh interpretation of classic design principles they are considered a provider of a complete suite of garden services including: exterior horticultural design and planting, irrigation, drainage, swimming pool and fountains, landscape lighting, hardscape installation and organic garden management.
