Local Tampa Craft Distillery wins 3 Medals

TAMPA, Fla. - June 22, 2015 - PRLog -- The Florida CANE Distillery’s Sunshine Moonshines took home 3 medals at this year’s Spirits International Prestige (SIP) Awards Competition that was held in Newport Beach, California.   The Sunshine Moonshine, Sunset Flavor, featuring English Toffee and Florida Oranges, won a Gold Medal in the Flavor/Infused Whiskey category. Their Apple Pie inspired, Sunrise Flavor, won a Silver Medal.  The entire, 4 bottle, Sunshine Moonshine Series also won a Gold Medal for Series Bottle Design. The series was created by local graphic designer, Netta Radice.

Sunshine Moonshine is a 109 Proof spirit distilled by The Florida CANE Distillery in Tampa.  They offer 4 flavors of Sunshine Moonshine:  Sunrise, High Noon, Sunset, and Midnight.  Sunshine Moonshine is distributed throughout Florida and are available in retailer chains such as Total Wine and ABC; they can also be purchased in their tasting room on Falkenburg Road.

The SIP Awards uses real consumers to judge the spirits who have not been influenced by large spirits manufacturers with massive marketing budgets.  Catering to the palates and opinions of the consuming public, the SIP Awards present a unique, spirit-judging competition, unaffected by industry bias.

The Florida CANE Distillery was founded in 2012 by Lee Nelson and Pat O’Brien, two distillers that set out to create high end spirits sourced with local ingredients.  In 2012, they launched a line of vodkas called Florida CANE Vodka made from Florida sugar cane and ten flavored vodkas flavored with local produce.  Since then, the Florida CANE Distillery continues to produce high quality, small batch spirits such as Sunshine Moonshine and Tamiami Florida GIN.  The Florida CANE Distillery offers free tastings at their distillery that is currently open Friday, Saturday and Sundays.
