By: Parvati.org Naomi Klein was among yesterday’s many signatories to parvati.org’ Parvati.org concurs that clean energy is the way forward for our economy and for the health of our planet. We are working to put an end to seismic testing and oil exploration in the vulnerable Arctic ecosystem by calling on global leaders to implement a Marine Arctic Peace Sanctuary (MAPS), making the entire Arctic Ocean above the Arctic Circle a marine protected area free from oil interests or military aggression. MAPS dovetails perfectly with the message being emphasized by many, including Al Gore’s Climate Reality Project, that in order to halt climate change, most of the remaining oil reserves in the world, including in the Arctic, must remain undrilled and unburned. #JobsJusticeClimate was organized in the leadup to the Climate Summit of the Americas taking place this week. Among the keynote speakers at this event is Al Gore, who will also host a Climate Reality Leadership training while he is in Toronto. Several members of parvati.org are participating in this training and will continue the momentum generated by #JobsJusticeClimate. At the invitation of Climate Reality Project Canada, parvati.org, led by its co-founder Toronto musician and yogini Parvati, is hosting a free yoga, music and information event on July 11 as part of the Climate Reality Day of Action. Titled “July 11@11”, it will take place at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre in Toronto. July 11@11 will include a 45-minute guided yoga class appropriate for all levels, a presentation by parvati.org members about protecting our oceans, a concert by Parvati and the official launch of Parvati’s song 911-1-L-O-V- QUOTES “I got my start in activism as a teenager when I travelled to Parliament Hill with my then neighbors, Naomi and Bonnie Klein, to protest against nuclear arms. It’s wonderful to be able to reconnect with Naomi in support of our planet. My commitment as a pop musician breaking into the mainstream is to use my voice and passion in service to our world’s need for love, interconnection and environmental awareness. Seeing the way Jane Fonda lends her name to worthy causes like #JobsJusticeClimate inspires me and gives me all the more determination to move forward.” Parvati For more information or to arrange interviews: Rishi Deva, Director of Marketing and Communications 647-477-3214 rishi@parvati.org Sandra Dalla Giustina, Strategic Communications Advisor 416-951-4212 sandra@parvati.org Pranada Devi, Manager of Publicity and Advocacy 416-805-9894 pranada@parvati.org End
