Father Goose Invites Prime Minister Trudeau to Take a Gander at His Environmentally Friendly Home

OTTAWA, Ontario - Dec. 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Bill Lishman, aka Father Goose, from the Oscar nominated Disney movie, “Fly Away Home”, would like to weigh in on 24 Sussex Drive.

Award winning sculptor, film maker, naturalist and inventor, Bill Lishman was presented with the AOPA award, the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association highest honour. In 1996, he was also awarded the Odyssey of the Mind award for Creativity which he shares with the likes of Walt Disney and Neil Armstrong and NASA.In 2000, the Canadian Government awarded Bill with the Meritorious Service Medal for his pioneering work with migratory birds. He was the recipient of The National Wildlife Federation Conservation award in 2002.

A Fellow with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, Bill has travelled extensively in the Arctic and Antarctic during the past decades. These travels inspired Bills most recent creation, an iceberg sculpture which is home to the Canadian Museum of Nature. This design has passed the Capital commission criteria. The Canadian Museum of Nature is Canada's national museum of natural history and natural sciences. The museum provides evidence-based insights, inspiring experiences and meaningful engagement with nature's past, present and future.

In Bill Lishman’s opinion, 24 Sussex is an old building, typical of the Victorian Era that does not reflect what Canada has truly become, especially being used as a Prime Minister’s residence since 1949. Bill agrees with other builders, such as Mike Holmes and Brian Baeumler that the Prime Minister’s residence needs more than just a make-over. “The home requires an entirely new design which is in keeping with the Canadian climate and culture. Now is the time to move forward with this change”, says Bill Lishman.

Bills unique environmentally friendly earth integrated home, which was inspired by the Igloo, is the culmination of years of research and countless hours of design. There are many advantages to earth integrated architecture.

With the earth as insulation, heating and cooling energy requirements are significantly reduced, especially in windy areas. Earth integrated homes offer protection from storms, never have to painted, shingled or have eaves troughs cleaned out! Earth integrated architecture is unobtrusive, leaving clear views, and can be covered with gardens and lawns.

“I am proposing an energy neutral, expanded and refined version of our earth integrated igloo home, for the new PM’s residence at 24 Sussex.  This environmentally friendly home, combined with an attached state of the art green house, will reflect a true Canada to those around the globe in the most positive way, says Bill Lishman”.

Ottawa has many historically significant buildings, but 24 Sussex is certainly not high on the list.

This type of building could be considered a leading edge home to help with our commitment to Climate Change.  While being very efficient, it is inexpensive to heat, cool and maintain. The gardens that grow on the rooftop provide a natural habitat for birds and butterflies and a unique opportunity to grow your own food similar to the  self sustaining community greenhouse that opened recently in Invermere, British Columbia.

In terms of Climate Change this house will not require fossil fuel energy. “We can show the world we are putting our money where our mouth is in terms of Climate Change. Our house is a prototype and pardon the wording, the ground work is done”, says Bill Lishman.
