Follow on Google News | Twin Cities enters 6-horse race for title after victory over BravosEagle Pass side join the leading pack in the hunt for TPSL glory
By: Texas Premier Soccer League The Eagle Pass side have entered into a fine series of form in recent weeks, managing to go six games unbeaten and have not conceded in the last three games, a TPSL record. Top goalscorer Luis Hernandez grabbed the only goal of the game that handed the visiting side to Brownsville the victory, to lift his side from fifth spot to third and now only five points behind the league leaders. All the more impressive from Twin Cities is the fact they opened the season with two narrow 2-1 defeats but have bounced back to a now six game unbeaten run. Twin Cities have a couple of games in hand over the league leaders ans they would be hopeful of carrying their in-form run into the new year. Despite the defeat, Brownsville remain in top spot thanks to no other matches being played over the weekend. The Valley side may find it difficult to hold on to that first placed position though as they have played more games than the chasing pack but in soccer, poits on the board are the all important factor and they will point to the fact they have earned those points thus far, the chasing pack have yet to do so. Next weekend sees the final matches of the year before a three week break for the holidays and even with those matches being played, Brownsville will remain top at the end of this year no matter what happens in these matches as they are more points in front than are on offer from this one remaining 2015 match. Houston Hurricanes welcome Temple United in a rescheduled match from an earlier season postponed game where a win from the Canes would see them leapfrog Twin Cities and join Dallas Clash on 17 points, just two behind top spot. Hurricanes have scored three times in five of their seven games this season so there's a good chance they may well manage that again in this match against a team that has conceded, on average, over four goals per match but Temple will be no pushover. With top goalscorer Dirk Gerhardt looking to add to his scoring tally, Temple may well take advantage of the Hurricanes loss of three or four main players coming into this game. A win for Temple will not put them in the mix just yet for a playoff spot but will certainly boost their morale going into the new year. In the weekends other game, last years champions ARC, look to get back to winning ways as they travel to San Antonio Generals. Like the Hurricanes/Temple match, ARC could leapfrog the teams above them and into third with a win and will be hoping to get back to winning ways after losing to Dallas Clash on 5th December. The Generals, like Temple, look likely to miss out on a play off spot but with an average scoring record of 2 per game, they will be sure to put up a fight. They have managed to score twice on five occasions this season, slightly more than ARC, so this should make an interesting match up as the year comes to a close. With it looking likely that six clubs will be vying for the four play off spots, there will be more twists and turns to come over the coming weeks in TPSL-land.
