Off the Streets-HB to hold New Year's Eve Day walk/run

Huntington Beach, CA (December 15, 2015)-- Off the Streets-HB, a local nonprofit organization that helps homeless people get into permanent housing, will hold its first  walk/run event on New Year’s Eve day to help raise funds for their 2016 efforts. The organization is has reached 90% of their projected revenues goals for the coming year, and is looking to secure the remaining funds by the end of the year.

Off the Streets is encouraging kids, families, and even pets to join the event from  9a.m.-12p.m. starting at First Christian Church HB, located at 17th & Adams Streets in Huntington Beach.

The walk/run will be a 1-mile loop around Smith Elementary, Dwyer Middle School and back to FCC. Organizers selected the safe circuit since there are no traffic crossings. Participants can walk or run as many times around this loop as they wish and those with sponsors signed up for a per lap donation can raise as much as they are able based on the number of laps completed.

Registration fee is $5 per participant, but the organization is also encouraging the walkers/runners to gather support pledges from others to help increase the funds raised from the event. Registrants will also have a chance to win an iPad Mini!

The organization, which has place almost 200 people in permanent housing since they began in June 2014, is hoping that the event will help close the gap on raising $15,000 they need to help in the coming year with security deposits for those they are serving.

About Off the Streets-HB
Off the Streets-HB has established a successful program working with the homeless who have monthly income (job, disability, public assistance, etc.). After determining if an applicant is eligible for their services Off the Streets will work with the individual or family to develop a personalized budget to determine how much rent they can afford based on their income and all their expenses.

Following that, once the applicant finds an appropriately priced rental that fits this budget,Off the Streets-HB pays the security deposit directly to the landlord to get the them placed. The final step, once they are in their new rental, is the delivery of essential household goods and furniture they need to get a new start in life. All of these goods are secured through donations, and delivered by volunteers.
