By: SMB Strategic Media (Affordable PR & Marketing) 1. Avoid the New Years Resolution Failure According to the University of Scranton Journal of Clinical Psychology, only 45 percent of Americans make New Nears resolutions. Even worse, only 8% actually follow through and fulfill their resolutions. As a whole, we do not have an empowering relationship with resolutions. Forget the idea that setting goals is not important and that failing to reach a goal has no consequences. Instead, create an empowering story relating to your New Year resolutions and goals and how you will fulfill them. 2. Define What a Successful 2016 Means to You What is success to you? What would make 2016 your most successful year? Many people do not set an expectation about what their success will look like in the coming year because they don’t want to be responsible for their own life and choices. Many don’t even know they have an option to choose. Don’t let others dictate what the expectation for 2016 will be for you. You have the ability and opportunity to create what 2016 will be for you. 3. Acknowledge the Mindset That Got You Where You Are It is easy to beat yourself up for where you are in life; many people do it. Some people know where they would like to be, some people don’t have any idea, but most people don’t want to be exactly where they currently are. Current circumstances are a direct response to your current mindset. You create where you are! In order to move to a new place, you must first take responsibility for where you are and acknowledge the good, the bad, and the ugly that comes with it. 4. Realize What Different Mindset You Will Need To get to a new place, you need to create a new mindset that is aligned with that new place. As the saying goes: if you don’t change, nothing else will. You must change yourself, your mindset, your speech, and your actions. In order to make this shift, you will need to be able to elevate outside of your current mindset. To do this, try yoga, meditation, and challenging your beliefs. Yoga and Meditation – These are excellent ways to slow down your brain enough to be able to see outside of your automatic ways of being and doing things. Through yoga or meditation, you will open up the space to create a new mindset from outside of your current one. Challenge Your Beliefs – Do things you thought were impossible. Listen to a lecture you completely disagree with and just pay attention to what they’re saying. Challenge your mindset enough to see the opportunities you are holding yourself back from. 5. Track Your Progress As 2016 unfolds, track your progress. You will want to know where you are in relation to your goals and be able to keep them relevant. Make the tracking process engaging so that you actually keep it top of mind and continue to move forward with your goals.
