Follow on Google News | ![]() Mount Students get Black History Month Lesson from Adam Clayton Powell, IVThe event, “Legacy of African American Leadership for The Present and The Future” A Black History Month Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was presented by The Urban Male Leadership Program and the Department of African and African American Studies at The City University of New York - Lehman College. The event was coordinated by Mount alum and Board Member Cleveland E. Beckett, Jr. '88 who serves as Assistant Director of the Urban Male Leadership Program. According to Lehman’s website, the mission of the Program is to “foster a meaningful college experience with specific emphasis on experiences of historically underrepresented Black and Latino males.” History teacher, Mr. Chad D. Robinson, '87 a Gilder Lehrman Institute Scholarwho chaperoned the trip noted, “The experience of visiting a college campus along with the opportunity to hear Adam Clayton Powell, IV speak about his father during Black History Month was a transformative experience for our students.
