Manitoba's Colleen Dyck, founder of Gorp Clean Energy Bars wins 2016 Mompreneur Award of Excellence

NIVERVILLE, Manitoba - March 7, 2016 - PRLog -- It was truly a national affair as four women representing different regions from across Canada were announced winners in four categories at the 4^th Annual National Mompreneurs Conference and Awards this past weekend in Toronto. And what better time than on the cusp of International Women’s Day to celebrate the achievements of Canadian women and moms who have developed businesses that innovate, improve and enhance the lives of people locally and around the world.

Over 300 women attended the conference over two days, and were joined by spouses and families on Saturday, to find out who would be named Canada’s “Mompreneur® of the Year” and win the coveted main award, The Mompreneur Award of Excellence.  Colleen Dyck, founder of GORP Clean Energy Bars from Niverville, Manitoba was named Canada’s Mompreneur® of the Year for 2016, and was awarded the esteemed Mompreneur® Award of Excellence along with a $30,000 prize package.

This year’s winner upheld the tradition of creating a niche business that is not only innovative, but also contributes to the greater community while inspiring other women to take the plunge into entrepreneurship. Colleen started GORP as a need in her own life, for a convenient source of whole food, which started on her family farm and grew with increasing demand from locals who loved the taste, and the wholesome ingredients fresh from the farm.

Last year, Mompreneurs® introduced a recognition award, the Mompreneur® Start-Up Award, for a remarkable woman in business to help provide support and promotion to their promising start-up. This year two new awards were added, valued at approx. $5000 each. The Mompreneur® Momentum Award recognizes a service-based business that is a non-profit or charity, and/or benefits the community at large. The Mompreneur® Award of Merit is for those whose businesses are consultant, franchisee or broker based. We are proud to announce the outstanding winners in those three categories:
