Follow on Google News | Shock Wave Robotics Advances to FTC Super Regional ChampionshipA small team of 7 eighth grade students, Shockwave Robotics competed against 36 of the best teams in the state of Illinois to qualify for the Super Regional Championship. After a series of qualifying rounds, the team won second place in the final alliance competition which advanced them to the next stage of the competition. "When we heard that we were moving on to super regional, we were so excited we couldn't stay in our seats," said Layan Dhaher, Shockwave Robotics member. Shockwave Robotics will be one of eight teams selected from the state of Illinois. The best teams from 13 different states will compete at the North Super Regional Championship which will take place at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on March 17 – 19th. “FTC is more than building robots,” said Aslan Saltas, computer science teacher and mentor to the robotics team. “By participating in FTC, students learn about technology, teamwork, marketing, fundraising and finance. Students gain the ability to appreciate another’s unique skills and develop more self-awareness.” This will be the first time that Shockwave Robotics competed in the North Super Regional Championships. Winners from this regional tournament will advance to world championship which will take place in April. End
