Science Academy of Chicago Will Send Four Students to State Science Fair

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. - March 16, 2016 - PRLog -- The Science Academy of Chicago was presented with multiple awards at the Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS) Region 2 - Chicago Non-Public Schools Science Exposition held on Saturday, March 6 at the Museum of Science and Industry.

Twenty-two students from 7th and 8th grade took part in the IJAS sponsored event on Saturday.  The Science Academy of Chicago is one of 42 schools that participated in the event.

"The students have been working on their projects for months," said John Linardakis, science teacher and sponsor.  "We had an in school science fair in late January where they received feedback from various judges and they worked on improving their project before we presented at the regional science fair."

All of the students participating in the science exposition were evaluated by three different judges from various fields of science in their oral, paper and poster presentation.

"It was a wonderful experience presenting to the judges at the IJAS Science Fair," said seventh grader Om Gandhi.  "My project was called The Protective Power of Antioxidants.  My uncle is a primary physician who told me that kids are coming to me sick and weak due to a lack of antioxidants.  I wanted to make a project that will teach the world that consuming food high in antioxidants is beneficial as it slows the rate of various health problems. "

Gandhi's project was honored with both Superior Achievement Paper Award and Superior Achievement Poster Award.  Gandhi along with seventh grader Selma Ucan and eighth graders Ibrahim Arifi and Zaid Usman all received Top Poster Awards.  They are 4 of the 84 students that will represent Region 2 at the State Exposition at Milliken University in Decatur, IL on May 13th and May 14th.

Other awards presented to the Science Academy of Chicago includes: Poster Award of Excellence and Special Awards from Concept Schools and J Michael Consultants.
