Science Academy host Robotics Competition

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. - Jan. 12, 2016 - PRLog -- MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. - Nov. 12, 2016 - The Science Academy of Chicago will be hosting the First Tech Challenge’s (FTC) Northern League East Division Meet 3 on Saturday, January 16 at the school gymnasium.

FIRST Tech Challenge is a national organization that challenges students from 7th – 12th grades to design, build, program and operate robots to achieve a goal.

"This year's challenge is to construct a robot that will collect blocks and move them to a designated location,” explained Layan Dhaher, a member of the Shockwave Robotics, the FTC Robotics Team representations the Science Academy of Chicago.  "The robot will also need to climb up a ramp and hang on the highest bar."

14 teams will be competing in this league meet including the Science Academy of Chicago, the host school along with Quest Academy, Highland Park High School and more.

“We are very excited to be hosting the meet at our school,” said Guray Taysever, Director of the Science Academy of Chicago.  “A competitive and robust robotics program is a very important part of our STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) focused education. Our team has been working on their robot all year long and I am look forward to seeing the robot in action."

The competition on Saturday will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon at 501 Midway Dr. in Mount Prospect.  Over 200 students and family members will be attending this regional event and the event is open to the general public.

Each of the teams will be participating in five qualifying matches.  The rankings from this competition will contribute to the ranking of the league championship on February 13 at McHenry County, Illinois.
