Save Our Cemeteries Calls For Volunteers For Cemetery Clean-up

NEW ORLEANS - March 17, 2016 - PRLog -- Save Our Cemeteries announced today that due to the heavy rainfall around New Orleans the week of March 12th, SOC has rescheduled the second phase of its clean-up in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 to April 2nd, 2016 from 9:00am - 12:00pm. Save Our Cemeteries is seeking volunteers to help in its second phase of the clean-up. Those interested in volunteering can forward their contact information to soc@saveourcemeteries.org, or contact the SOC office at 504-525-3377. SOC started the Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 clean-up project on March 5^th, with help from Bayou Preservation LLC and students from the Tulane University TIDES Program.

Ms. Walker continues, "We are asking for dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers to help us in our efforts to keep Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 beautiful."

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 is located at 1400 Washington Ave in New Orleans, LA, in the heart of the Garden District, between Washington, Sixth, Prytania, and Coliseum streets. Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 is the oldest of the seven municipal, city-operated cemeteries in New Orleans. Once part of the Livaudais Plantation, Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 was designated a city burial site in 1833, and has been in continuous use since. It is a non-segregated, non-denominational cemetery.
