L.A. Wolves FC Hit the Road for National Amateur Cup in San Jose

LOS ANGELES - June 16, 2016 - PRLog -- The L.A. Wolves FC will hit the road this weekend for a three game playoff series in Morgan Hill, Ca.  at the USASA Region IV Amateur Cup Playoffs. The L.A Wolves are one of two teams that qualified from the Southern California region for the National Amateur Cup playoffs representing the  UPSL  as Western Conference Champions with a record of 11-1-4 in league play. Moreno Valley FC who finished with a league record of 9-0-3, are the Southeast UPSL Conference Champions, that will also represent the UPSL in the National Amateur Cup Playoffs.

Yan Skwara, President/GM of the L.A. Wolves FC said, "We are very excited to have a shot at the National Amateur Cup as this is a very prestigious tournament dating back to 1923 so we are talking quite a bit of US Soccer playing history. We have worked hard this past year and have had a winning year in general, but we have yet to hoist a cup so we are hoping this trip will get us closer to some hardware. We are going to have three tough playoff matches back to back to back and the boys need to be ready to fight. We look forward to the challenge as our recent U.S Open Cup run was an exciting one but we fell short of our goal so this will give our club and players a chance to redeem ourselves."

National Amateur Cup

The National Amateur Cup is an American soccer competition open to all amateur teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Soccer_Federation). It is officially known as the George F. Donnelly Cup (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_F._Donnelly_Cup).

In 1923, USSF established the National Amateur Cup in response to the increasingly large number of teams entering the open National Challenge Cup (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Challenge_Cup). The 1923 competition was played up to the semi-finals. However, these were never held due to inclement weather.
