HOUSTON - June 22, 2016 - PRLog -- With the UK government's growing interest in expanding their medical devices, pharmacological and medical research industries, a relationship with the Texas Medical Center in Houston, the largest medical center in the world, would deliver great advantages.

To further develop this relationship, the BABC has chosen to honor Pumps & Pipes with our 2016 Consul General Award. On a flight black to Houston, Scottish born Dr. Alan Lumsden, a cardiovascular surgeon at Houston Methodist Hospital, and the passenger next to him, an Exxon Mobil drilling engineer, struck up a conversation about their respective professions. By the time they landed, it was clear that both worked in pumps & pipes professions. The conversation continued with Dr. Bill Kline from Exxon Mobil Upstream Research and the Pumps & Pipes Program was formed under their leadership. P&P now facilitates and encourages technology transfer between Houston's 3 largest industries and the UK's major investments here: Energy, Medicine and Aerospace. Its guiding principle to problem solving is exploring "The Other Guy's Toolkit".

In addition to honoring Pumps & Pipes, Dr. Denton Cooley will receive the "World Icon of Medicine" award for a lifetime of service to improving the health of mankind. The awards dinner, Oct. 12, will be the first public event of the newly remodeled Trevisio's Restaurant atop the 6-story water wall in the Medical Center.

Honorary Chairs for this event have come from the Medicine, Energy and Aerospace sectors. Larry Lawson, founder of eCardio and advisor to the Texas Medical Center Accelerator program, will represent Medicine and Rob Franklin, president of Exxon Mobil Gas and Power Marketing, will represent the Energy industry. Maj. General Charles F. Bolden, Jr. (USMC-retired), administrator of NASA, has been asked to be our honorary chair representing aerospace.

An impressive Host Committee is being assembled and BABC will announce the Host Committee's names at an event at a later date. Top levels of sponsorship of the awards dinner will allow companies to have one of the Pumps & Pipes board members at their table.

Amazing media interest has already been generated and with more names being connected to the event, the interest will continue to grow.
