One week later, on Saturday, Oct. 15, craft beer brewers will come to town for the Bardstown Craft Beer Festival. Click www.VisitBardstown.com for details.

Time to shop

Begin your holiday shopping in downtown Bardstown, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8-9, when over 200 artisans and craftspeople put their talents and works of art on display. The 36th Annual Bardstown Arts, Crafts & Antiques Fair will include artists working in numerous mediums: metal art, pottery, jewelry, antiques, wearables, foods, natural soap, candles and much more.

"We have a lot of regional artists as well as artists all over the U.S., including as far away as Maine," said Lisanna Byrd, executive director of the Bardstown Main Street Program, which organizes the event.

New this year will be a food court and live entertainment area. The food court will have everything from tamales and barbecue to seafood and gourmet hot dogs, as well as everyone's favorite fair food, including funnel cakes, burgers and ribbon fries. The entertainment area will host both local and regional talent, highlighting solo acts and small bands. www.BardstownMainstreet.com, 502-348-4877, 800-638-4877

Time for hops

Next Generation Nelson County presents the 4th Annual Craft Beer Festival, 6-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Bardstown Farmer's Market Pavilion. Join beer lovers for a tasting of more than 50 domestic and imported craft beers, including seasonal brews and rare releases selected by the breweries that will be featured at the event.

Attendees will receive a commemorative pilsner tasting glass and can dine on local foods from Bardstown's highly regarded Harrison-Smith House as well as food trucks – a new element to this year's festival. The headlining entertainment is the Hogslop String Band, a Nashville-based old-time string band featuring five energetic young musicians from Georgia, Tennessee, California and North Carolina.

The festival has expanded the number of draft trailers in attendance to offer more selections on tap. Also new is the presence of several craft brewers who will join the lineup of local breweries from all over Kentucky.

Tickets: $40/person; $35/person advance purchase tickets. New this year is a special designated driver ticket for $20/person. The festival takes place rain or shine – but tents and the pavilion will keep everyone dry. www.BardstownCraftBeerFest.com
