ATLANTA - Sept. 2, 2016 - PRLog -- Did you know, 1 in 5 women are sexually assaulted while in college, and more than 90% of sexual assault victims on college campuses do not report the crime.  Unfortunately, in the U.S.  1 in 5 women will be raped at some point in their lives. But the staggering accounts go on:

- Nearly 1 in 10 women has been raped by an intimate partner in her lifetime

- 91% of victims of rape and sexual assault are female

- Rape is the most under-reported crime.

When you look at recent breaking news such as with Stanford student Brock Turner who was sentenced to six months in jail for sexually assaulting an unconscious woman to the scandalous controversy surrounding, actor and filmmaker, Nate Parker, you realize women are in danger.

Girl Power Hour Radio with the support of media personalities and social influencers will use the month of September to bring awareness to the issue of rape culture with their #SilentNoMore campaign. Jae' Nash, Host of Girl Power Hour Radio (https://girlpowerhourradio.com/about/)  shares, " As a woman, a mother who has a daughter, an aunt and a sister I empathize with victims of sexual violence. Although I have never been raped, it is my duty to service the community by providing a platform to bring awareness to such heinous act. Joining the campaign efforts is Tamika Morrison CEO and Founder of T.MORRISON AGENCY (http://www.tmorrisonpr.com) who also serves as Editorial Director ofRYSE Magazine. "As a survivor of rape, it hits close to home when you have an entire society treat - with dismissal - women who are sexually assaulted." She continues, "The culture of toxic male masculinity must be held accountable, and it will take a collective voice of women to be silent, no more."

The term "rape culture" is a term that was coined by feminists in the United States in the 1970's. It was designed to show the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault and normalized male sexual violence. Skewed media narratives and the dominant culture in entertainment, inclusive of sports, music, film, and even in certain business industries, display a trend of micro and macro sexual aggressions towards women.  These aggressions range from victim blaming/shaming, sexually explicit jokes, minimizing sexually aggressive behaviors in men and promoting toxic masculinity, to name a few.

The hope with this campaign is to embolden women to speak up against any form of sexual violence - whether implicit or explicit and to provide them with information to make them aware of dysfunctional behavior that has been normalized by society.

Anyone from around the world can join the campaign, and some brave women will join us on-air to share their stories and their motivations for being #SilentNoMore. Participants are encouraged to upload 30 - 50-second black and white video using the hashtag #SIlentNoMore and encouraging their friends and followers to join the movement.  If not for you, then for your sisters, daughters, and girlfriends.
