2016 Marks the Inaugural 'Battle for 16' Game Sponsored by Mid-City Sports

The Battle for 16 refers to US Highway 16 that connects the two programs; The Lake Country Chiefs 8 White and the Oconomowoc Bandits 8 Gold teams play Saturday September 24 at 7pm for the traveling trophy.

HARTLAND, Wis. - Sept. 21, 2016 - PRLog -- In the spirit of Paul Bunyan's Axe, the Heartland Tophy, and the Freedom Trophy, the Oconomowoc Youth Football and Lake Country Chiefs Youth Football organizations have created an annual rivalry game between the two clubs with the winner to earn and keep possession of the "Battle For 16" traveling trophy for the following year.   The rivalry game was named after US Highway 16 that connects and runs through both Oconomowoc, WI and Hartland, WI.

While Oconomowoc High School and Arrowhead Union High School will begin annual play in football next year when Oconomowoc becomes a member of the Classic 8 Conference, Lake Country and Oconomowoc have been annual opponents and rivals for over twenty years in youth football dating back to Oconomowoc's admission to the Wisconsin AAYFL in 1994.

The annual game and trophy is being sponsored by Mid City Sports which is the official apparel and spiritwear provider for both Oconomwoc Youth Football and Lake Country Cheifs Youth Football.

The rivalry game will take place each year between an 8th grade team from each program.  In 2016 it will be the Oconomowoc 8th grade Gold team and the Lake Country Chiefs White team.   The game will take place at 7:00pm on September 24 at Taraska Stadium on the campus of Arrowhead High School in Hartland.

"This is a big annual game for both programs and we thought it would be fun to add to the build-up with a traveling trophy that both clubs can compete for and take pride in." said Gary Wipperman, president of Oconomowoc Youth Football.  "While we are definitely rivals, we also share a common goal of developing quality individuals who possess a good knowledge of the fundamentals of football".

"The Chiefs and Bandits are friendly rivals with a respect for one another and share the same camradarie as many Big 10 football programs." said Matt McQuestion, president of Lake Country Chiefs Youth Football.  "We expect the trophy to be a fun addition to the annual game."
