Water System Issues: Reports Say Water Quality In Flint Is Improving

LOS ANGELES - Dec. 14, 2016 - PRLog -- The United States has a long history of water supply problems and issues that have swept many of the nation's consumers, sometimes even catching them off guard. One of the most well-known recent water supply and system problems is that of an area in Michigan.

A long narrative and interpretative report on website Wired discussed that the city of Flint in Michigan has been reported to have contaminated water supply that have caused health problems among its residents. There are places in that city that reportedly went positive in water tests for lead contamination, the website added.

"Last August, a woman named Lee-Anne Walters telephoned Edwards to talk to him about water problems in Flint, where she lived. The local GM plant had been forced to switch away from the municipal water supply because engine parts were corroding, she said," the report on Wired stated, referring to Dr. Marc Edwards of Virginia Tech who made studies on the water safety in the area. "Her family had health problems. The growth of one of the Walters' twin sons seemed stunted."

Flint is a city in Michigan that has a nearby river known as Flint River. The city has been issued and been placed in controversy because of the reported lead content in its water supply.

"[Twenty-one percent] of the tap water sampled from the dilapidated, bohemian neighborhood around Kearsley Park was positive for lead contamination," the Wired report added. "In fact, every residential zip code in Flint has houses that have tested hot."

Improving water quality?

However, water express over the nation have dismissed calls from environmental organizations that the water quality in Flint is threated by contaminants, and even reportedly said that it is improving.

In another recent report on Michigan Radio, new water quality data collected by Flint's researchers have shown that the water is improving "since the switch back to Detroit water last fall."

Having covered several important areas in the city including by-product disinfection, bacteria and lead contamination, researches have concluded that Flint's water system "is improving."

There are still reportedly some discrepancies, such as not being able to use unfiltered water for cooking or drinking, to assure everyone's safety. Dr. Marc Edwards previously mentioned reportedly said that he has a team that has plans to undergo more tests this July. By August, authorities will reportedly have a clearer idea when residents in the city of Flint can be able to use their waters without worrying about safety.
