MAYSVILLE, Ky. - April 6, 2018 - PRLog -- On Thursday, March 29, 2018, a large crowd gathered in the rain to celebrate the beginning of a new era for a highly respected mental health facility. Comprehend, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to behavioral health, broke ground that day on a new expansion to its existing facility in Maysville, Kentucky.

The new 25,303-square foot addition will be located adjacent to Comprehend's current building on Forest Avenue, and will allow the firm to improve the quality and quantity of services they provide. By expanding their facility, Comprehend will be able to provide acute primary care in addition to their existing mental health, counseling, and drug and alcohol intervention services. The facility will also include a new conference area for training.

Although Comprehend has been serving the region for more than 50 years, this will be the first new building that will be constructed to their specifications. Dr. Pamela Vaught, CEO and President of Comprehend, was enthusiastic about the new venture. "In 50 years, we have never built a building," she said at the ceremony. "We have always bought a property and renovated it to our needs."

Comprehend engaged architectural firm GRW to design the facility. The firm then needed a construction manager they could trust to bring the new building to life. "Comprehend issued a request for proposals and selected the most qualified construction manager, by far, of all that submitted," Vaught said. Respected Kentucky contractor Trace Creek Construction got the job.

Trace Creek is well-known in the construction community for being exceptionally reliable and dedicated to providing quality work. Over the past 25 years, Trace Creek's experienced construction team has built many public and private buildings that have become part of everyday life for the community.

"As soon as I was notified that Trace Creek had been selected as the construction manager, I felt relieved," said David Humlong, architect for GRW. "I knew I would be able to sleep at night knowing the project is in good hands."

The building will require careful attention throughout the construction process due to the proximity of Comprehend's existing facility. "The location of the new building will present a challenge," said Sam Howard, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Trace Creek. "Trace Creek will design a shoring system to support the existing adjacent building, parking lot and state highway running perpendicular to the site," he said.

Comprehend's current facility will remain open and fully functional throughout the construction process, which is scheduled to take 12-14 months. "We're going to make sure that we maintain a professional and safe environment for employees and patients. As part of that commitment, we will limit the noise and disruption on the site," Howard said. "Comprehend provides much-needed mental health and wellness services to our community, and it is vitally important that they can continue to do that even as they expand their facility."

Howard is excited about the construction now underway for the new facility, and what it will mean for the Maysville community and beyond. "Trace Creek is honored to be a part of the Comprehend construction team," he said. "We feel privileged to help Comprehend improve their services for the most vulnerable citizens of our region."
