Follow on Google News | Inventionland Institute Welcomes Gwen's GirlsBy: Inventionland Institute The group toured Inventionland, took part in a STEAM activity, had lunch, and asked questions to an all-female panel of Inventionland employees to understand more about careers in STEAM. Rising ninth grader, Jada Webb, was excited about the new perspective she gained through the event. "This day was amazing and very unexpected, I liked how we were able to learn new things," she said. The event concluded with pictures and mingling in front of Inventionland's massive white castle, fully equipped with knights in armor, turrets, and a red carpet fit for royal innovators. Gwen's Girls was founded in 2002 by former Pittsburgh Police officer, Gwendolyn J. Elliott, who was one of Pittsburgh's first female officers and the department's first minority female Commander. The mission of Gwen's Girls is to empower girls and young women to have productive lives through holistic, gender-specific programs, education, and experiences. Since its inception, the organization has helped thousands of girls realize their true potential. "This is an amazing program with so many strong and talented girls," said George Davison, founder of Inventionland Institute. "It's so important that we do everything humanly possible to encourage more women to charge forward in the innovation race. I hope to see some of these girls working here in the coming years." Inventionland Institute hosts monthly community-driven events and will continue to champion innovation through education while providing inspiration to the community at large.
