Islamic Leadership Institute of America Launches Jude Jawhar Scholarship for Nursing Students

BALTIMORE - Aug. 25, 2018 - PRLog -- Sister Jude was 18 when she was starting to pursue her nursing career at Towson University, where she aspired to be an Oncologist Nurse Practitioner and completed one semester with  A grades. On Monday, February 19th, 2018 she returned to her Creator after battling cancer.

In late April 2018 Islamic Leadership Institute of America launched the Jude Jawhar Scholarship to fund aspiring nursing college students. To date, one student, Hanan Saljooghi has received a $500 award as well as several smaller awards to complete her Certified Nursing Associate program in Baltimore, where she graduated from Top Knowledge Healthcare Institute earlier this summer. The scholarship also provides its awardees with professional development coaching, job readiness and leadership training. The Jude Jawhar Scholarship at Islamic Leadership Institute of America is open to students of all backgrounds who are studying nursing, the scholarship is funded by members of the ILIA community and generous donors.

In addition to Jude Jawhar Scholarship at Islamic Leadership Institute of America, ILIA Youth Council has developed a relationship with Towson University Foundation and was a main catalyst to the formation of a Jude Jawhar Scholarship at Towson under the leadership of Bahaa Harraz, Youth Council President. ILIA's Youth Council members not only worked with the Jawhar family and Towson Foundation to develop the scholarship, but also contributed $2,690 towards the fund at Towson, through donations from the Muslim community at ILIA. ILIA Youth Council member Andy Mejia, Yahia Halawa and Bahaa Harraz all participated in the development of the scholarship web page at http://www.islamicleadership.org/memorial-fund/.

On August 11th, 2018, the Jude Jawhar Fund for Nursing at Towson was officially launched at an opening ceremony. In a room full of tears and stories of remembrance, many of Jude Jawhar's family members, teachers, and nurses shared stories about her inspirational life. Towson University proudly hosted this event and opened their donation page to start raising funds for future nurses' scholarships.

The Jude Jawhar Scholarship for Nursing aims to honor Jude Jawhar's ambitions of becoming a nurse during her time at Towson University.

"Through community donations, we fund prospective nursing students who may not have the financial capabilities to become a nurse, but do have the ambition to do so", says Bahaa Harraz. This scholarship hopes to put its funds to good use by training the nurses of the next generation, who will go on to help save many lives in the future.
