LOS ANGELES - Sept. 7, 2018 - PRLog -- After a highly competitive pilot season, actor Eric Lane ("Empire," "Barbershop," "Trapped in the Closet") prepares for his pivotal guest-starring role in the special preview Sunday, September 9 after NFL on FOX of the new comedy series, "Rel."

"Rel" will air regularly at 9:30 p.m. on Sundays starting September 30.

The new show is inspired by Lil Rel Howery's life in which he plays an eponymous character on the West Side of Chicago who finds his positive outlook on life tested when he discovers that his wife is having an affair with his barber – portrayed by Lane.

"I knew this would be something special working with Jerrod Carmichael and other writers from "The Carmichael Show." I was a fan of that show," Lane said.

With this role Lane booked his first pilot audition ever. And there was another "first" this time around as well.

"I had never shot in front of a live studio audience before," said Lane, who aptly handled the pressure.

Eerily, the role mimics Lane's real life as well -- as he's from Chicago -- just like Howery.

"It's surreal coming from the south side of Chicago, and to be a part of a project that is based at home and working with talent from Chicago, such as Lil Rel," Lane said.

Lane is recognized from his recurring role as the character, Drop, on the FOX television series "Empire," and also from his turn in the highly-popular R. Kelly R & B opera entitled, "Trapped in the Closet." It is a song and video series which eventually reached 33 Chapters.

In addition to Howery, "Rel" also stars Jess "Hilarious" Moore ("Wild 'N Out") and Sinbad ("A Different World," "The Sinbad Show").

The pilot was written and executive produced by Lil Rel, Kevin Barnett and Josh Rabinowitz ("The Carmichael Show"). The Executive Producers are Jerrod Carmichael ("TheCarmichael Show"), Mike Scully ("The Carmichael Show") and Gerry Cohen, who also directed the pilot.

Lane is glad that the FOX network agreed with his opinion that this is going to be a "great show" and picked it up for a Fall debut.

"I want to thank Fox and the writers and the creator and Lil Rel and Jerrod Carmichael for giving me this opportunity to be a part of something new. Something special," Lane said.
