Revitalization of Lenlock (Anniston) Alabama Building into Calhoun County's Most Spacious Laundromat

ANNISTON, Ala. - Dec. 3, 2018 - PRLog -- For many years the building known locally as "the old Dollar General" sat empty, it's darkened windows a testament to what used to be in Lenlock (Anniston) AL.

The building began life  years ago as a motorcycle dealership but due to restrictions imposed in nearby State and Federal forests, access to areas to ride offroad dirt bikes became very limited. This combined with a reduction in interest forced the closure and eventual transition into a Dollar General branded store.

With the closure of Fort McClellen and other competition in the area the Dollar General Corporation closed this retail location almost a decade ago.

In early 2018 a local entrepreneur was looking for a location to expand his business. Ken Barrett is the Owner of K-Bar Inc, an Alabama company that owns four Coin Operated Laundromats, and a Laundry Service in Calhoun County.

The building in Lenlock turned out to be a perfect size and location. With easy access for customers from Lenlock, Weaver, Saks, Alexandria and Jacksonville combined with a large parking lot and room for expansion.

After closing on the property in July of 2018, construction immediately  began on the new 2,400 ft2  Laundromat. All new utilities were required to provide the necessary power to run the brand new, state of the art laundry equipment.

Concrete was cut, trenches were dug, walls were built, and the ceiling was  raised to over 13' high.

On November 20th, just over four months from the start of construction, Washin Lenlock Coin Laundry opened quietly with a Free Wash Day to a few select customers that had been anxiously waiting for this new facility to come to their area.

Since that time word has spread throughout the area about this great, new venue and the parking lot is filing up more each day.

Clean clothes are very important to public health and also impact children's attitude and acceptance at school. Access to a quality Laundry Facility in their neighborhood plays a large role in making this seemingly basic chore quicker and more efficient for many families.

Other features, carried on from the other Washin locations, are the large TV's, free WiFi, as well as the always popular, Kids TV, a TV mounted low and tuned to kids channels complete with Kid Sized chairs in front. Parents love that they have a specific place to send their kids and, usually after the first visit, the kids head straight there themselves.

Plans are in the works for a Grand Opening Celebration in January 2019 that will include many activities and giveaways as well as more Free Laundry.

As this new business continues to rapidly grow many other plans are in the works to provide support to the community and to become a destination for all.
