Dr. Jatinder Kumar Mokta to Receive AACE Outstanding Service Award

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - April 23, 2019 - PRLog -- Jatinder Kumar Mokta, MD, FACP, FRCP, Professor of Internal Medicine at Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla, India, is the 2019 recipient of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) Outstanding Service Award for the Promotion of Endocrine Health of an Underserved Population. Dr. Mokta will receive his award during AACE 2019, the association's 28th Annual Scientific & Clinical Congress in Los Angeles.

The AACE Outstanding Service Award for the Promotion of Endocrine Health of an Underserved Population is presented to an individual for outstanding contributions to the endocrine care, health and service to an underserved population in the United States or abroad via: leadership, long-term commitment, vision, innovation and impact/outcomes.

Dr. Mokta was born and raised in a village of the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, studying in a rural school and completing his studies in internal medicine to pursue his goal of helping others as a doctor. He is dedicated to serving underprivileged residents in remote areas of the state where medical services, including endocrine-related treatments, are lacking. Over the last ten years, Dr. Mokta has provided free services for treatment of diabetes, vitamin D, osteoporosis and thyroid disorders state-wide.

At an altitude above 14,000 feet in tribal districts during the winter, Dr. Mokta has successfully provided insulin to patients with Type 2 diabetes without a storage facility, preventing the insulin from freezing as temperatures dipped to -20-30⁰ C. He has also used an insulin pump to treat a patient with Type 1 diabetes in a remote Himalayan village without a medical facility at an altitude of 9,000 feet. Dr. Mokta continues to participate in research work and has published more than 30 manuscripts.

Taking place April 24-28, 2019, AACE 2019 will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center & JW Marriott and will feature expert speakers, networking events, and trade show exhibitions.
