MANHATTAN, N.Y. - Oct. 28, 2022 - PRLog -- DKBmed LLC launches CME/CE webinars addressing the need for education on Monkeypox. Entitled Monkeypox: Keeping Up with a Moving Target, this new series equips clinicians with the knowledge to address the evolving needs of patients with or at risk of monkeypox.

The program can be found at movingtarget.dkbmed.com/ (https://dkbmed.com/programs/184/overview)

Endemic to the rainforests of Western and central Africa, monkeypox is a viral zoonotic disease that has been circulating worldwide since May 2022. Monkeypox belongs to the same family of viruses as smallpox and is transmitted through close contact with an infected animal or person's lesions, bodily fluids, respiratory droplets, and contaminated materials such as bedding. Patients infected with monkeypox typically present with a fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a rash concentrated on the face, hands, feet, and genitalia.

Although monkeypox is rarely fatal and resolves spontaneously, the blisters can be very painful and interfere with eating and other functions.s. As the world continues to emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic, health care professionals must continue to be vigilant about other infectious diseases with the potential to disrupt society. Importantly, clinicians need to be educated about the presentation of patients with monkeypox and tools to prevent and treat infection.

Monkeypox: Keeping Up with a Moving Target will be hosted on the ON24 webinar platform and review current knowledge of the 2022 monkeypox outbreak in a lecture format. Topics examined include:
  • Previous monkeypox outbreaks and the latest epidemiologic data
  • Patient populations at elevated risk of acquiring monkeypox
  • The differential diagnosis, excluding alternative causes of rashes such as chickenpox, measles, bacterial skin infections, scabies, syphilis, and medication-associated allergies
  • The value of prophylactic measures, such as vaccines, to patients at risk of monkeypox infection
  • The role of antiviral therapies and other interventions in patients with active monkeypox infections

Additionally, clinical faculty and patients will interact periodically to provide learners with enhanced insights regarding patient priorities for care. Like other programs hosted by DKBmed, the activity will conclude with an interactive, question-and-answer segment.
