| Julia Fine wins Daphne Zepos Reseach Award
Recipient hopes to expand our understanding of cheese from the Indian Subcontinent

NEW YORK - Nov. 18, 2022 - PRLog -- - The Daphne Zepos Teaching Endowment announced on July 1,2022 that Julia Fine had been named the recipient of their cheese focused scholarship the Daphne Zepos Research Award. The award amount is $2,500. Julia is a food writer and a current graduate student at Stanford University. By exploring and analyzing historical records and visiting cheesemakers in India, Julia hopes to expand the knowledge and variety of cheese made in India. In the West, India is primarily known for the paneer that is found in Indian cuisine when in reality there are many more varieties native to India as well as cheeses that are developing within their nascent artisan cheese scene. She will debut her findings in 2023.The Daphne Zepos Research Award (DZRA) is an annual scholarship awarded to a food industry professional to further their learning—and their ability to educate others—about cheese. Recipients use theaward to research a topic with cheese as part of the central topic. The goal is to produce a piece of media that can be used to further education and understanding about cheese.To apply, candidates write a brief vision describing what will happen because they earned this award. The award requires that the person have worked in some part of the food industry for three years.About the Daphne Zepos Teaching Endowment. The endowment is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that funds the annual award. Hundreds of donors have helpedmake it possible. All the proceeds go towards the annual scholarship.About DaphneThe DZTE, and the awards it funds, is named in honor of Daphne Zepos, one of America's most inspiringcheese teachers. Daphne lectured, moderated, and presented at the American Cheese Society's AnnualConference. She taught at Slow Food's bi-annual Cheese in Bra, Italy, at the College of Marin, and at courses throughout the country. Daphne passed away in San Francisco in the summer of 2012.
