BROOKLYN, N.Y. - June 11, 2024 - PRLog -- KidSpirit (kidspiritonline.com), the award-winning online magazine and community by and for 11-to 17-year-olds, is delighted to announce the winners of its annual KidSpirit Awards. The awards, chosen by the magazine's all-youth editorial boards around the world, recognize contributors for outstanding expository writing, personal essays, poetry, and artwork featured in KidSpirit in the last year. Over 90 editors from 13 countries selected pieces created by their peers from issues on Violence and Healing, Courage, Now and Then, and Crisis & Change. This year's award-winning pieces showcase insightful, artistic, and eloquent approaches to a wide array of topics.

Each issue of KidSpirit revolves around a Big Question posed by the editors. The 2024 Big Question Award goes to a writer from Haiti who reflects on whether meaning is essentially universal or subjective.

In the Features department, editors recognize a teen from Ukraine for her personal account of courage in the face of war, two writers from Pakistan for their pieces on history and forgiveness, and a Chinese contributor for her exploration of the psychology of meaning.

Winners in the Awesome Moments department include authors from New York, Pakistan, and Australia, who share stories about profound discovery during travel, revisiting childhood experiences, and interviewing strangers. Interfaith Connections Awards acknowledge youth from Australia, Paraguay, India, and China for essays on how traditions connect us to the past, puzzling out the meaning of life, the importance of folktales and myth, and embracing our authentic selves. In Media, winning pieces include reviews of Soul, A Christmas Carol, and Till by teens from Ukraine, Pakistan, Australia, and Texas.

Helping Hands Awards honor writers from Taiwan and Pakistan for their stories about the true meaning of friendship and the devastating toll of climate change. Winners in the Fiction department include writers from Paraguay, Pakistan, and the UK who shared stories exploring purpose, time travel, and heroism. The editors also selected winners from China, New York, Pakistan, Australia, Ukraine, Paraguay, Taiwan, and the UK in the Poetry and Art departments, highlighting the creative ways contributors around the world have shared their inner wisdom on this year's themes.

The 2024 PerSpectives Award — the only award reserved for an adult contributor — goes to author and public interest lawyer Michelle Kuo for "Why Are Young People So Often the Soul of Social Movements?" In her piece, Kuo highlights the inspiring traits of young heroes working toward a better future.
