BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Dec. 2, 2024 - PRLog -- KidSpirit (https://www.kidspiritonline.com/), the award-winning online magazine by and for youth to explore life's big questions, launches its winter issue on "Music and Art." This season, young contributors ages 11 to 17 delve into the origins and significance of aural and visual expression.

Each issue of KidSpirit revolves around a Big Question posed by the all-youth Editorial Board. This winter, the editors ask, "Are art and music truly universal, or are they bound by cultural and linguistic barriers?" In her response, a young writer from China recalls a spontaneous multicultural dance that exemplifies our shared search for joy and connection.

Other pieces released today include an article on why humans are driven to create art, a contributor's reflection on a moment that crystallized her love for photography, a piece about the joy of helping other kids write and perform poetry, and an essay about the role of music and art in Chinese traditions. Also just published are a review of Margarita Engle's novel in verse, Wings in the Wild, and a short story about a meaningful song.

Throughout the season, KidSpirit will continue to publish writing, poetry, and artwork by youth on this theme. In Features, two writers collaboratively explore the changing significance of music, while another will cover its evolution in her country, Pakistan. The Interfaith Connections department will feature the perspectives of young contributors in Nebraska and Karachi. In Media, an author will review the 2023 adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The Fiction and Poetry departments will showcase more creative writing on the topic from lyrical young authors around the world.

Each issue of KidSpirit features additional wisdom from one adult with expertise in the theme in a column called PerSpectives. We are proud to announce that this issue's author will be Dr. Susan Magsamen, the founder and executive director of the International Arts + Mind Lab (IAM Lab) at Johns Hopkins University.

KidSpirit is a unique forum for young people of all backgrounds and traditions to explore life's big questions in an open spirit. For interviews and further information, please contact Taylor Cornelius at the information below.
