Nov. 4, 2009 - PRLog -- Paint Wilmington! is an annual painting invitational that draws artists - and buyers - from across the country to Wilmington, NC,  Not only are there painters around town, art lectures to attend, and great paintings recording the area of the country that Art ignored until recently, but there will also be paintings painted of and for historic buildings.
On Tuesday November 10, John Poon, acclaimed artist from the Utah, will paint at the Bellamy Mansion Museum of History and Design Arts.  His scheduled time is 12:30 to 2:00.  There is no way to reserve a spot from which to watch, so the recommendation is to arrive early while keeping an eye on Mr. Poon while he chooses his motif.  Perry Austin, an Alabama resident, is known for his paintings of what he refers to as "the disappearing South".  Perry will be painting at the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History on Wednesday November 11 from 12:30 to 2:00.
As an added draw for the museums, artist Gavin Brooks will be giving a talk on how an artist looks at landscape and converts that image into a painting.  Tuesday November 10, she will be at the Wrightsville Beach Museum of History from 12:30 to 2:00 and then on Wednesday evening November 11, Gavin will be at the Bellamy Mansion Museum from 6:00 to 7:00.
The Wrightsville Beach Museum, http://wbmuseum.com/ , is housed in a turn of the last century beach cottage which has been moved to a municipal area of the islands that comprise the town of Wrightsville Beach.  The museum's focus is 100 years of beach life including hurricanes, architecture, and movies on the beach.
The Bellamy Mansion Museum of History and Design Arts http://www.bellamymansion.org/ is the former home of Dr. John Bellamy and is a beautiful example of Southern architecture prior to the Civil War.  The property consists of the mansion, gardens, and slave quarters.  Completed just before the war, the house was commandeered by the Union Army in 1865 when the city of Wilmington fell.  The museum has changing exhibits of architectural history, historic preservation, and the design arts.
The paintings painted at the Bellamy Mansion Museum and the Wrightsville Beach Museum will be sold at the First Look opening of the Paint Wilmington! exhibition which will be held at Walls Fine Art Gallery, http://www.wallsgallery.com/ , on Friday November 13 from 7-9.  100% of proceeds from the two paintings will go to the respective institution.  First Look is an invitation only event.  Call the gallery for more information at 910-343-1703.  The exhibition opens to the public on Saturday November 14 at 9:00 AM.  All events are free of charge.
