Musical notes for the Andrew Grene Foundation

Feb. 12, 2010 - PRLog -- He devoted much of his working life to the UN, and as a peacekeeping strategist he worked in troubled areas across the globe, from Africa, to Asia to Haiti.  He loved, admired, and believed passionately in what he did, and from the bottom of his being, he believed in the joy, spirit, and potential of the Haitian people.  Andrew gave his life in the cause of peace, when the UN HQ building in Port-au-Prince collapsed on the evening of 12th January 2010.

Andrew’s twin brother Gregory and close friend Tim Perutz, have set up the Andrew Grene Foundation in memory of Andrew to raise funds for the education of children in Haiti and to aid micro financing small scale business that can make the difference between supporting a family and poverty that is beyond most of our imaginations.  In just two weeks the Foundation has received donations of over £25,000.00, a tremendous response from all corners of the globe.  

Tim’s niece Sophie Macclancy is a student at Keble College, Oxford.  She wanted to do something to help the Foundation and so quickly called on her friends to see what could be done!
A silent auction has already taken place and all proceeds from that will be given to the Foundation.
Next week it is Keble College Arts Week and various events are taking place from a carnival party, screenwriting workshop, open mic night, dancesport special, drumming workshop to a poetry discussion.  Another major event during this themed week is an orchestral concert by Keble Orchestra.  On Tuesday 16th February, 20:30 start, they will be performing Mendelssohn’s Concerto at the Keble Chapel and once again, all proceeds from this special evening will be donated to the Foundation.

Sophie also commented that various other Oxford Colleges will be holding events and sending their proceeds to the foundation in the next few weeks.  She has spoken too many of her friends about the Foundation and now they all want to do something to help.

The response from everyone, whether they are friends, family or general public is helping Gregory and Tim to deal with their tragic loss of Andrew.  Tim stated; ‘Andrew and I met at school, aged 14, and have been very close friends ever since.  He was the most generous, loving and gifted person I have ever met.  It was a real honour to be his friend.  To be able to set up the Foundation in memory of Andrew to assist the people of Haiti is something I will cherish forever. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far and all those people who are continuing to hold events for the Foundation’.
