2 Olympians Competing in Spalding Big Shot Volleyball in St, Augustine Beach

April 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Present by Reflekt Polarized Sunglasses and Rider Sandals, the Spalding Big Shot Volleyball Series, hosted by Rider Sandals, will return to St. Augustine Beach on April 6-7, 2013. Teams from throughout the East Coast will compete as they warm up for the 2013 Pro Beach Volleyball Tour. All events are sanctioned by Volley America.

Top male and female doubles teams will compete for over $75,000 cash prizes during the 2013 season including $3,000 at the St. Augustine Beach event which will be held at a new location on the beach by the pier across from Panama Hattie’s. Tournament play will start at 9 am with women’s finals scheduled for 6 pm Saturday and men’s finals 12 noon Sunday. Admission is free for all spectators.

Top players in the St. Augustine Beach event will include 2 Olympians, Riley Salmon who was on the 2008 US Volleyball Gold Medal Olympic team Steve Grotowski (who represented Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics in London). Others expected to play include Miami Beach star Adrian Carambula, who is the top player on the East Coast, Orlando star Bill Chenoweth, top Tampa player Matt Henderson and Charleston, SC’s Jake Elliott. Many of the tour players have Pro Beach Volleyball Tour experience with Adrian Carambula/Steve Grotowski posting the highest result in 2012 by making it to the finals of the Belmar, NJ Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Tour.

Top women’s players include Belleair Beach Pro Player Tara Kuk playing with Canadian defensive specialist Viky Balian, Webber University starts Karolina Sowala and Chantell Jordan.

The Big Shot Volleyball Series holds 35 events leading to the September 7-8 $8,000 Big Shot Championships at Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City, NJ and the $5,000 Volley America National Championships October in Clearwater Beach. Winners at the April St. Augustine Beach tournament will win a trip to the Big Shot Championships including airfare and a room in Bally’s Casino.

Separate divisions will be held for players of intermediate and novice levels on Saturday and Sunday. The $60 entry fee entitles players to a full day of tournament play, an official Reflekt Polarized Big Shot Volleyball t-shirt, and a chance to win merchandise prizes from tournament sponsors Spalding, Rider Sandals, 4C Totally Light 2Go Energy Drinks, Rox Volleyball, 1st Place Volleyball, SOB Volleyball Vacations, Sixpak Volleygear, ZEMgear, Dig Magazine, Bally’s Casino and Park and Sun Sports.
