The New Ram EcoDiesel Wins 2014 Canadian Truck King Challenge

Powered by the award-winning 3.6L Pentastar V6 engine, the 2014 Ram 1500 took the top spot in the light-duty segment of pickup trucks with a starting MSRP under $45,000 during the rigorous, multi-day challenge. This third-party event pits today’s top pickup trucks against each other in a head-to-head series of exercises.

The event took place in Kawartha Lakes, Ontario and London, Ontario. Kawartha Lakes hosted the light-duty competition while London hosted the heavy-duty competition. In its seventh year, the Canadian Truck King Challenge used an expert panel of judges to put all truck entrants through stringent real-world truck tests. These tests were designed to highlight capability, consumption, and the features of each truck. Testing included 3,629 kg towing, 817 kg of heavy payload, and some off-roading driving.

In the under $45,000 category, the new Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and the Ram 1500 equipped with the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine claimed first and second place. The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is the first light-duty full-size pickup truck to come outfitted with a standard diesel powertrain that puts out 240 hp and an impressive 420 lb-ft of torque. This engine is also biodiesel capable to produce less air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. The 2014 Ram 1500 (http://www.grovedodgechrysler.com/2014-ram-1500.htm) with the available 5.7L Hemi V8 under the hood received a 395 hp rating and a 410 lb-ft torque rating.

In the ¾-ton heavy-duty category, the 2014 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty pickup truck powered by the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel finished in the top spot. The available Cummins Turbo Diesel engine is capable of 370 hp and 800 lb-ft of peak torque for heavy-duty towing.
